The Pocket Guide to LED Retrofit

LED Retrofit

LED retrofits are the process of changing out old bulbs in your sign with energy-efficient LED lights. They consume less power and help save on the electricity bill. Because of their design, they can burn longer and brighter in the thousands-of-hours range.

Light-emitting diodes (LEDs) typically use about 80 percent less energy than traditional lights and can last 25 times longer which results in energy savings for the life of the sign.

Neon or fluorescent signs require periodic servicing to keep them operating at their full potential. LED’s carry longer lifespans in the thousands of hours and service calls aren’t required nearly as often.

We have many options as far as signs go and the styles you can choose from for your LED retrofit. We offer custom products that we sell that use LED lighting, too.

Wall cabinet (single-face) signs and  (double-sided) pylon cabinet signs are also candidates for LED retrofit.

Some examples are:

Reverse Halo Lit

Also known as “halo lit letters” or “back-lit letters” due to the light coming from behind the letters, these signs are only made of aluminum, and the back is left open. All of the light, then, comes from the back. It has an elegant effect at night and is easy to read during the day. The light can also come out of the front as well as the back.

Open Face Lit

Despite the name, these signs are not really open-faced. Instead, onlookers are able to see the lighting source inside at night because of the clear acrylic face.

Standard Front Lit

Housed in aluminum frames, LEDs shine through an acrylic face of any color with standard front-lit channel letters. Aluminum is most often used for the housing due to its durability and rust-free qualities.
