Building signs are used primarily for identification and promotion. Signs can be placed either on the building or they can be freestanding. They can be illuminated internally or accented with landscape lighting.
Many building owners, particularly municipalities and institutions, also add dedication plaques to commemorate the building completion or to honor worthy individuals.
A sampling of building signs and plaques are illustrated in the pictures below. Types vary from illuminated cabinet signs, backlit channel letters, cast, fabricated or cut metal letters, plastic letters, sandblasted wood and logo plaques.
Dedication plaques typically are made of cast or etched metal with a variety of finishes, textures and colors. For an exceptionally striking look, plaques can include sculptured likenesses of individuals or objects.
